Why I publish Healthy Tricks

Vera TweedI'm Vera Tweed. I believe that science should be put to use, in the supermarket aisle, in your home, and in the time you have to relax, even if it's only a few minutes each day.

Healthy Tricks makes the connection between today's scientific discoveries and simple, practical ways you can use these day to day - and enjoy the process without turning your life upside down or seeing a supersized reflection in the mirror.

It is possible to be healthy and enjoy life now and later. You could even make more money -- really.

What I Do

I've been a health journalist since 1994. I'm a contributing editor to America's oldest health magazine, Let's Live, write regularly for Get Active, and was the editor in chief of another national health magazine, GreatLife. I've also written for a few dozen other magazines, including the Saturday Evening Post, and edited countless how-to books. As an author, my most recent book is the User's Guide to Carnitine (a nutrient that energizes the heart, brain and muscles and can help to prevent and treat many health conditions).

Before I started writing about how to stay healthy, dance and other forms of exercise, as well as and nutrition, were hobbies of mine ever since I was about 15 years old. That was long before "wellness" and "healthy lifestyle" became popular buzz words.

The Problem and the Solution

Despite our fascination with health and never ending increases in healthcare costs, the incidence of obesity, diabetes and other lifestyle-related conditions is skyrocketing. The fact is, you're the only person who can keep you in decent shape. And the good news is, you can do it!

I'm fortunate because my profession enables me to continually pick the brains of scientists, forward-thinking  physicians, nutritionists, chefs and fitness trainers about how scientific knowledge can be translated into practical things you can do every day to live in good health. In Healthy Tricks, I'm turning reams of information into simple tidbits you can incorporate into a busy schedule.

You can have your cake, if you know how, and my aim is to make that process easier for you - and more enjoyable. The fun factor is really important because if you don't like doing something, you won't do it.

Vera Tweed
